Kim Aldis | Resume

Kim Aldis is a former computer animator and special effects artist who now spends time taking photographs in and around South Devon. He obtained a degree level qualification in Creative Photography at the London College Of Printing, leaving to work as an assistant photographer and later as assistant film director working on music videos for, amongst others, Madness, Ian Dury, Dexies Midnight Runners and The Stranglers. Kim also worked as freelance photographer, mostly in the music industry before making a move into 3D computer animation at Digital Pictures, at the time a pioneering and award winning company in the fledgling field of computer animation. Kim worked on commercials and movies. He also developed and developed and wrote the 3D modelling software used by the company. In 1985 he became Head of Animation at Digital Pictures overseeing what was, at the time, a large animation department, coordinating, planning and directing both small and large CGI projects. In 1993 Kim left Digital Pictures to found The Aldis Animation Company which quickly became one of the largest fully independent CGI facilities in the UK with clients including most of the major TV companies, advertising agencies and a number of leading television design companies. The company took commissions from both in the UK and abroad producing animated graphics for commercials, TV titles, station indents, games and branding. Kim sold The Aldis Animation Company to a management buyout consortium in 2001 to spend time as a freelance CGI animator, technical director and consultant. His services were much demand around the world and he is well known in the UK, the USA, Canada, India, the Middle and Far East and Europe. He co-founded CG Soup in 2005 with leading US CGI artist Brad Gabe. CG Soup provided technical consultancy and training services for CG animation and VFX to the television and movie industries. Retiring from the CGI world in 2007 Kim moved from London to Torquay where he takes photographs largely for his own enjoyment. Many of the photographs on this site may be purchased as high quality prints suitable for framing. Please contact Kim for more details
